What is dental sedation?

Dental sedation is a method of creating a relaxed experience for the patient by administering sedative medicines. While these medicines will not put you to sleep, you can expect to feel drowsy while under sedation.

We have developed long term relationships with our Medical Specialists so our sedation fees are usually less than dental sedationist fees. Whatsmore, our IV sedation fee is eligible for a Medicare rebate.

What is Intravenous (IV) Sedation?

IV sedation is when a sedative is given into a vein and enters the bloodstream. While a patient feels like they are sleeping, they actually remain conscious throughout the procedure and are able to follow requests from their dentist. Any sense of anxiety or fear is replaced with a feeling of deep relaxation and most patients find that they have little recollection of the experience once dental treatment is complete.

The sedative is administered by our experienced Specialist here in Sydney through a thin plastic tube known as a catheter inserted into one of your arms or the back of a hand. Throughout the procedure, your pulse and oxygen levels are carefully monitored, and your blood pressure is checked before and after treatment.

Our Sydney dentist will endeavour to complete as much of the treatment as possible in one appointment.

Once the treatment has finished under sedation, the patient is left to relax for a while before being escorted back home by a friend or relative.
